Breakthrough is the narrative of a rogue scientist's mission to find a treatment for cancer, the disease that took his mother's life. Jim Allison, a Texan, was awarded the 2018 Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine for finding how to stimulate a cancer patient's own immune system to fight the disease. However, for decades he fought a lonely battle against the harsh skepticism of the medical establishment.
