After splitting up with her girlfriend, Jane, a nightclub singer, responds to a personal ad placed by Robin, an AIDS-infected real estate agent looking for a cross-country travel companion. On their way from New York City to Los Angeles, the two make a stop in Pittsburgh to pick up Robin's friend Holly, who is fleeing an abusive relationship. The women must overcome their differences to help one another, despite having three distinct personalities.
