Dhaanu, a poor villager who is deeply in debt, returns to the village one night in secret. He's hiding from a moneylender to whom he owes a large sum of money. Pushed up against the wall, he decides to sell his donkey, Bhasmasur, in the city. Dhaanu's son Tipu, who longs to attend the city's annual fair, has a special bond with the donkey, Bhasmasur. Tipu, in his childish ways, tries to prevent Bhasmasur from being sold, but is unsuccessful. Dhaanu decides to take Tipu to the city as well. The trio set out on foot from Rajasthan's hinterlands to the city. Numerous events occur along the journey, bringing the father and son closer together. Will Dhaanu be able to sustain this bond?
