Australia
The action of the story takes place in northern Australia before World War II, and it follows an English aristocrat who inherits a huge ranch and is forced to make an uneasy pact with a stock-man in order to defend her new land against a hostile takeover attempt. The two witnesses the bombardment of Darwin by Japanese forces for the first time when they are driving 2,000 heads of cattle over a harsh country.
