Anne Shirley, now a teacher, has taken up writing stories and amassing rejection slips. She meets an attractive, wealthy bachelor, pursues a cow, and (to to her disgust) wins a writing contest sponsored by a baking soda firm. She serves as Diana's maid of honor and declines Gilbert Blythe's marriage proposal; this results in her being assigned to teach at Kingsport Ladies' College, an exclusive ladies school, where she encounters opposition from one of the teachers, Miss Brooke, and the Pringle clan (one of whom is a rich, handsome bachelor). While Anne is having a good time in the war and making new friends, she returns to Avonlea.
