This spectacular one-off drama journeys back to 1963 to witness the birth of Doctor Who on television. Actor William Hartnell felt imprisoned by a string of tough-guy parts. Verity Lambert, a would-be producer, was upset by the television industry's glass ceiling. Both of them were to discover improbable hope and unforeseen obstacles through a Saturday tea-time drama. Together with a group of eccentric but talented individuals, they created the longest-running science fiction series ever created.
