Afonya
Afonya, directed by Georgi Daneliya and released in1975, became an unanticipated commercial success in the USSR. The main character, "Afonya" Borshev, is a plumber who spends his life partying with "friends," many of whom he doesn't even remember after nights of heavy drinking. Despite this, he works as a plumber. His life is falling apart around him, but he is oblivious to the fact that it is happening. His wife has left him, and his boss has placed him on probation. Afonya first encountered Katya at a dance club, but she didn't pay much attention to her at the time. However, she is the only one who can actually save him... Within the confines of this film, Daneliya strikes the ideal equilibrium between comedic and dramatic elements. In the USSR, certain lines from the film have achieved cult status.
