In the National Hockey League, there are around 600 players total, with thirty of them being African-American. Slaughter, a hockey prodigy from the small Black village of North Preston, is aiming to reach the milestone of thirty-one goals this season. Mattie must keep his nose clean and stay out of trouble if he wants to achieve his aim. Especially when you attend a school where racism permeates every contact, your older brother is a hustler, and you have a crush on a girl who's already in a relationship with another person.
