Tom Welles, a surveillance specialist, is led down a path that becomes progressively more sinister and terrifying by a film reel made of plastic that appears to be harmless. In order to discover what happened to a total stranger, he uses the savvy assistance of his friend Max and doggedly pursues a peculiar trail of evidence. As his work develops into an obsession, he moves further and further away from his wife and family, as well as the straightforward existence he formerly enjoyed as a private investigator in a small town.
