Julián Torralba is an Almeria, Spain-based former film stuntman. He and many of his colleagues, who previously earned a career starring in American Westerns shot in Spain, are now relegated to performing daredevil exhibitions for miniscule crowds on the deteriorating set erected for those vintage Westerns. Julián battles gloomy memories of his son's death as a stuntman, as well as alienation from his daughter-in-law Laura and her son Carlos. Carlos, a young lad, becomes fascinated by the life of his late father and flees to join Julián and his gang of has-beens. Carlos gets initiated into the raucous lifestyle of these hard-drinking phony cowboys at this location. However, when Laura, a prominent businesswoman seeking a new location for a tourist resort, hears that Carlos has joined the despised Julián, she sets out to destroy even this last vestige of Julián's once-proud career. Julián and the cowboys decide to retaliate in the only way they are capable of.
