Tennie's school reputation suffers a big setback a few years after her mother's death. And to make matters worse, her father, Robert, an ad executive who has now rebuilt his company, attempts to rebuild their relationship as well. The overeager Robert goes against his therapist's instructions and shows Tennie his own kind of care. He enlists the services of Jack, his 19-year-old driver/intern, to learn more about his daughter. Tennie, who is practically raised by her extended family, is bright, mature, and compassionate, with a sarcastic wit and a rebellious streak. Tennie recognizes that she must persuade her father to find a lady companion in order to get him off her back.
