The World at War is a 26-part British television documentary series that tells the story of the Second World War. At£900,000, it was the most expensive series ever made when it was finished in 1973. It was made by Jeremy Isaacs, narrated by Laurence Olivier, and has a score by Carl Davis. Mark Arnold-Forster wrote The World at War, a book that came out in 1973 to go with the TV series. Since it was finished, The World at War has gotten a lot of praise and is now seen as a landmark in British television history. After it was finished, when the Second World War was still fresh in many people's minds, it was thought that producer Jeremy Isaacs was ahead of his time for bringing back studies of military history. The series focused, among other things, on showing how terrible the war was for people, including how life and death affected soldiers, sailors, airmen, civilians, victims of tyranny, and people in concentration camps.
