It is a sequel to the 1960s television series The Avengers, and it was created by original series producers Albert Fennell and Brian Clemens. The series was created for the ITV network by The Avengers Enterprises Ltd, cost £125,000 per episode to make at Pinewood Studios in England, and was broadcast in 120 countries. The series, produced by the United Kingdom, France, and Canada, continues John Steed's exploits as he and his squad of "Avengers" battle evil plans for world dominance. In the new series, Steed had two companions: Mike Gambit, a top agent, crack marksman, and trained martial artist, and Purdey, a former trainee with The Royal Ballet who was an amalgamation of many of the best qualities from Steed's female partners in The Avengers.
