The City is an American reality television show that first aired on MTV from December 29, 2008, to July 13, 2010. The show had two seasons and followed the personal and professional lives of several young women living in New York City, New York. It was a spin-off of The Hills. Adam DiVello came up with the idea for it, and Liz Gateley was the show's executive producer. The first season of the show was about Whitney Port, who had been in the first season, when she started working for Diane von Fürstenberg. It also focused on her rival at work, Olivia Palermo, as well as Port's boyfriend Jay Lyon, his roommate Adam Senn, and her friend Erin Lucas. In the second half of the first season, Port's roommate Roxy Olin and Palermo's enemy Erin Kaplan took their places. The reviews for The City were mostly mixed, and it didn't do as well as The Hills. Like its predecessor, this show was often criticized for using a storytelling style more common in scripted shows like soap operas and for having a storyline that seemed to be mostly made up. All of the seasons of the show are available on DVD.
