Sam Swift is the ex-star of a popular television show about cops, and after her public meltdown, which is shown on television, she is forced to check herself into a rehabilitation center. Desperate to get her career back on track, she uses her charm to get a job shadowing a lone-wolf private investigator named Eddie Valetik as part of her preparation for a possible return role. Sam's high-spirited performance, in which she applies the abilities she gained as an actor while portraying a police officer, proves to be surprisingly beneficial, despite Eddie's dislike of the babysitting duty.
