The "Gear" is a component of the cogwheel system that belongs to the category of engineering mechanical devices (as in a clock). The possession of one indicates that the holder is enrolled in the Faculty of Engineering at the university. To obtain one, however, each and every incoming first-year engineering student must first go through the SOTUS (an abbreviation that stands for Seniority, Order, Tradition, Unity, and Spirit) system. The two were initially hostile toward one another, but with time their relationship blossomed into something far more intimate.
