Sola was created by Naoki Hisaya and Naru Nanao. Sola is a mixed-media concept first revealed through the manga prologue in Dengeki Daioh on December21, 2006. Chako Abeno's manga finished in February 2008. The first volume of the manga was released in June 2008 by Broccoli Books. A prologue drama CD was released at Comiket 71 in December2006, and another in May 2008. In Japan, a 13-episode anime version broadcast between April and June2007. Two DVD-exclusive episodes followed. Bandai Entertainment licensed the anime for North American distribution in a 15-episode subtitled box set. The name Sola sounds like the Japanese word sora. Sola was chosen 2007's finest animation by Japanese fans.
