Scene of the Crime
Tatort is a long-running crime drama set in various locations of Germany, Austria, and Switzerland. ARD in Germany, ORF 2 in Austria, and SF1 in Switzerland all broadcast the show. On November 29, 1970, the pilot episode aired. The series' opening sequence has stayed consistent over the years, which is remarkable for a long-running TV show. Each of the regional TV networks that make up ARD, as well as ORF and SF, creates its own episodes, each featuring a different police inspector, some of whom have become cultural icons, such as the now-discontinued Schimanski. On Sundays at 8:15 p.m., the show airs on DasErste and ORF 2, with approximately 30 episodes produced each year. In total, 865 episodes have been produced as of March 2013. Tatort is now airing on the MHz Worldview channel in the United States under the title Scene of the Crime.
