Richard Benjamin stars in the American television series Quark, a science fiction situation comedy that is shown on NBC. The series premiered as a mid-season replacement in February1978, after the pilot episode debuted on the air for the first time on May7, 1977. The series was taken off the air in April of 1978. Buck Henry, who also worked on the comedy series Get Smart, is the brains behind the creation of the character Quark. The action of the show took place in the year 2226 aboard a United Galaxy Sanitation Patrol Cruiser, which was an intergalactic waste scow operating out of the United Galaxies Space Station Perma One. The main character, Adam Quark, together with his reliable and highly peculiar crew, is tasked with the mission of collecting "space baggies" in order to clean up rubbish in space. During its brief run, the television show Quark lampooned several well-known works of science fiction, including Star Wars,2001: A Space Odyssey, and Flash Gordon. Three of the episodes were parodies of other Star Trek episodes in their most literal form. The series was nominated for an Emmy Award just once, and that was for the work done by costume designer Grady Hunt in the episode "All the Emperor's Quasi-Norms, Part 2." On October14,2008, the DVD release of the entire series was made available.
