Ben Harper is a modestly prosperous family guy and dentist. He is also going through a mid-life crisis and attempting to deal with the weird realities of raising teenage children. Susan, his wife, appears to be content and enjoys her profession as a London tour guide, but her ability to navigate a cookbook or pantry at home is less effective. Their three children, Nick, Janey, and Michael, are diametrically opposed. Nick(19) is on a gap year but doesn't travel much further than the sofa or the employment centre, Janey is as sharp as a tack and 16 going on25, and Michael is a very intelligent, computer-nerdish 12-year-old who is just discovering females.
