The manga artists Eiichi Shimizu and Tomohiro Shimoguchi are responsible for the creation of the series Linebarrels of Iron. In2005, the first installment of the story was published in Akita Shoten's monthly shonen manga magazine known as Champion Red. Since then, as of the 20th of November in2008, it has been collected into eleven tanka-bon. The main character, Kouichi Hayase, is a fourteen-year-old kid who leads an average life until an accident transforms him into the pilot of a massive robot known as "Linebarrel" and brings him into contact with a strange girl. The plot revolves around these two events. In the February issue of Animage magazine, it was revealed that the manga series would be adapted into an anime adaptation. Gonzo is responsible for the animation of the anime, which is directed by Masamitsu Hidaka. The first episode of the series was broadcast for the first time in Japan on the TBS television network on October3,2008, even though the world premiere of the episode took place at the 2008 Anime Expo in Southern California. There were a total of twenty-four episodes of the anime that were televised, the most recent of which aired on March20, 2009. In order to commemorate the series' adaptation into an anime, Shimizu and Shimoguchi decided to create a one-shot manga that would recreate the first episode of the anime in its entirety. The plot of the first episode of the anime differs significantly from the beginning of the manga in a number of aspects.
