The hour-long comedy-drama television series Key West premiered in 1993 but was canceled after only one season due to low ratings. Between January and June of 1993, Fox broadcast all thirteen episodes of the show. David Beaird and Allan Marcil were the ones who came up with the idea. Viacom Productions was the company that was responsible for making the show. Seamus O'Neill, a factory worker from New Jersey who has ambitions of becoming a writer and is portrayed by Fisher Stevens, is the central figure in the story. After winning the lottery, he decides to put his newly acquired fortune to use by relocating to Key West so that he can pursue a career in writing. Hemingway was his primary inspiration. Seamus discovers that the island is inhabited by strange people. He decides to work for a local newspaper called "The Meteor," where he would be a reporter. In addition to Stevens, the big ensemble cast was led by Jennifer Tilly, Denise Crosby, and Brian Thompson, who, in order, played the town's high-class prostitute, conservative mayor, and eccentric sheriff, respectively. Stevens also played Stevens.
