JAG is a legal drama television show that airs in the United States. It was conceived by Donald P. Bellisario and is produced by Belisarius Productions in partnership with Paramount Network Television. JAG has a strong focus on the military. NBC Productions was a partner in the production of the first season. The first episode of JAG, which was broadcast on NBC on September 23, 1995, was based on the original idea of combining Top Gun and A Few Good Men. However, the series was ultimately canceled on May 22, 1996, after finishing 79th in the ratings, and there is still one episode that has not been broadcast. The competing network CBS decided to air the show as a replacement for the first half of the season on January3, 1997. It turned out to be a smart move for CBS to screen JAG, as the show's ratings improved over the course of several seasons and it continued to air for a total of nine more years after that. In addition, JAG was the show that gave rise to the successful series NCIS, which in turn gave rise to another successful series, NCIS: Los Angeles. In total, 227 episodes were created across 10 seasons, and JAG was broadcast in over 100 countries around the world while it was in its fifth season. Due to the show's immense popularity, it was picked up for syndication in the early part of1999, and it is still regularly seen.
