However, executive producer Steven Spielberg asked series producer and writer Tom Ruegger and the Animaniacs team to turn it into a straight-up comedy. The show is like other Ruegger-led shows like Animaniacs, and it has a unique sense of humor that includes slapstick, breaking the fourth wall, parody, surreal humor, and references to pop culture.
