Davy Crockett
Davy Crockett is a five-part serial that aired on ABC's Disneyland series in one-hour installments. Fess Parker plays the real-life frontiersman Davy Crockett, and Buddy Ebsen plays Crockett's friend George Russel. The first three episodes of the serial were edited together to make the 1955 movie Davy Crockett, King of the Wild Frontier. In the 1960s, when the Disney show moved to NBC, it was shown again in color. "The Ballad of Davy Crockett," the show's and movie's catchy theme song, is well-known. It was shot in color at the Great Smoky Mountains National Park at the Mountain Farm Museum next to the visitor center at Oconaluftee near the entrance to the Qualla Reservation and at the Janss Conejo Ranch in California. The last two episodes were cut together to make the 1956 movie Davy Crockett and the River Pirates, which was shown in theaters. Cave-In-Rock, Illinois, is where the movie was shot.
