At least 150 million people were killed when a bizarre phenomena referred to as a "spacequake" struck the middle of Eurasia thirty years ago. The spacequake was responsible for the devastation. Since then, there have been sporadic occurrences of much less severe spacequakes that have been felt all around the planet. An apparently normal high school student named Shido Itsuka runs into a mystery girl near the epicenter of a spacequake. He learns that the girl is one of the "Spirits" that are the true source of the spacequakes that occur when they present themselves in the world. He is brought in because of his unexplained power, which can be used to stifle the Spirits' abilities and prevent them from posing a danger to humanity. On the other hand, there is a catch: in order to lock away a Spirit's power, he needs to make her fall in love with him and kiss him.
