It was produced by Collins Avenue Productions and takes place in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, at the Abby Lee Dance Company. The story focuses on the beginnings of children's careers in the dance show business, as well as on their moms. Dance Moms: Miami was a spinoff series that began on April 3, 2012 and ran for a total of eight episodes before being canceled in September of the same year. The show was filmed in Miami at Stars Dance Studio, which is owned by Victor Smalley and Angel Armas. Lifetime made the announcement on October 10, 2012, that they have renewed Dance Moms for a third season, which would include a total of 26 episodes and will premiere on January 1, 2013.
