On January 4, 2004, the first episode of the series that Stig Thorsbe had developed for the DR broadcast-television network was broadcast. The first season of the show broke all kinds of records for its popularity. Five of the episodes were included on the list of the top ten most watched television shows in Denmark since records first began being kept in 1992. The conclusion of the first season was watched by 2,717,000 people, putting it first on the list. The program was put up for consideration for the International Emmy Award for Best Drama in 2004, however it was ultimately defeated by Waking the Dead. The final episode of the series aired on January 1, 2007, bringing the total number of viewers in the United States to 2.4 million.
