Casanova
Giovanni Jacopo Casanova was an Italian adventurer and libertine who lived from 1725 to 1798. In this six-part series, Dennis Potter tried to show how his main ideas about sex and religion are still relevant today. He said, "Casanova cared about religious freedom and sexual freedom, and these are the things we need to worry about now." Casanova was locked up in Venice in 1755, and Potter used that as a central plot point. He constantly cut between Casanova's romantic adventures, which were bright, happy, and well-lit, and his solitary confinement in a half-darkened cell.
