The body of a teenage girl is found in a woodland near Manscheid, in northern Luxembourg. The investigation is sent to Luc Capitani, a gruff Southern detective. Capitani has problems navigating the insular, communal, and protective northern mentality, so he depends on Elsa Ley, a young local policewoman.
