Bob and Margaret spent the first two seasons at Balham, South London. For seasons 3 and 4, they moved to Toronto, Canada, allowing authors to explore culture clash humor. Certain Canadian tax incentives depend on stories set in Canada, inspiring the move. Keeping the series funded required the change. The series creators elected to take an executive role on the latter two seasons, evaluating scripts and consulting, but not in detail.
