Dan Signer, the former writer and co-executive producer of The Suite Life on Deck and the creator of the Disney XD comedy Mr. Young, created the show. Production began in early 2011 after the series was approved by Disney Channel in mid-November 2010. During the debut of Lemonade Mouth, the first promo was released. With scenes in San Francisco, this drama series stars China Anne McClain. Middle schoolers Anne McClain, Sierra McCormick, and Jake Short are enrolled in the "Advanced Natural Talent" program at their local high school because they are gifted. Following a second season order announced on November 30, 2011, two back-to-back episodes of A.N.T. Farm debuted on June 1, 2012. As of October 2, 2012, the third season of A.N.T. Farm had been officially renewed by Disney Channel, which launched on May 31, 2013 with a one-hour special. However, Carlon Jeffery would not be returning for the third season and Aedin Mincks would join the main cast.
