After hearing an old story about the Winged Maiden from his mother when he was a youngster, Yukito Kunisaki is now on a journey to find her. The Winged Maiden was chained to the sky many years ago. As Yukito performs his puppet show for the locals in an effort to earn some money, he discovers that he is currently in a somewhat unimportant village, where he had not intended to remain for an extended period of time. However, things take a dramatic turn for the worst when he makes the acquaintance of an odd girl whose name is Misuzu. She invites him to stay with her. Yukito quickly becomes friends with many of the residents of the sleepy town since he chooses to make his home there. After getting to know them better, he finds out about the challenges they face and makes the decision to assist them. As a result, he suspends his hunt for the Winged Maiden. Will Yukito ever discover the Winged Maiden, especially given that he has put his search on hold and his growing attachment to Misuzu and the small town?
