The Earnshaws are farmers in Yorkshire at the beginning of the 19th century. One day, when Mr. Earnshaw gets back from a trip to the city, he brings with him a dirty little boy named Heathcliff. Hindley, Earnshaw's son, doesn't like the child, but Catherine, Hindley's sister, becomes good friends with Heathcliff and falls in love with him. After her parents die, Cathy and Heathcliff grow up wild and free on the Moors. They are happy, even though Hindley and Heathcliff are still enemies, until Cathy meets Edgar Linton, the son of a rich neighbor.
