Western Netherlands is in the grip of a famine during World War II, during a freezing winter in the Netherlands in 1944/1945 during the freezing winter of the Netherlands. To provide for their family, many people relocate east. Michiel, a fourteen-year-old boy, can't wait to join the Dutch resistance, much to the dismay of his father, the village's mayor, who is responsible for preventing escalation in the community.
