Shizuku's humble lifestyle is governed by her passion for storytelling and writing. One day, she realizes that Seiji Amasawa has previously checked out all of the library books she possesses. Shizuku meets a boy her age whom she finds aggravating out of curiosity, only to discover to her horror that he is her "Prince of Books." As she draws closer to him, she realizes he only read those novels to get closer to her. Seiji hopes to become a violin maker in Italy, and it is his ambitions that cause Shizuku to realize she has no clear direction in life. She writes a story about Baron, a figurine of a cat that belonged to Seiji's grandfather, to demonstrate her writing abilities.
