Harry Doyle (Lancaster) and Archie Lang (Douglas) are two old-school rail thieves who held up a train in 1956 and have been in prison for thirty years. A new existence awaits them after completing their sentence, and they must adapt to it. On their way to a bank to cash their prison checks, Harry and Archie manage to thwart a robbery. An aerobics instructor, just 20 years old, is no match for Archie, who spent his time in prison working out. As for Harry, he's stuck in a nursing facility for the rest of his life. It's hard for Archie and Harry to shake their feelings of resentment, which stems from the humiliation of their jobs as busboys. The two old friends have finally returned to their favorite pastimes. Having successfully looted an armored car, they intend to rob the identical train that they robbed thirty years before.
