"Tormenting the Hen" is a biting comedy set in the world of country mice, where well-meaning cosmopolites fight with eccentric locals in country homes, black-box theaters, backyards, and neighborhood pubs. Claire (Dameka Hayes) is whisked away to an artists' retreat by a dippy curator (Josephine Decker) to present a political one-act on race, bitterness, and masculinity. Monica (Carolina Monnerat) and her fiancé, Monica (Carolina Monnerat), take a break from their hectic lives. A visit from the town enigma, Mutty (Matt Shaw), casts a dark shadow. While Claire looks after a pair of challenging performers, Joel (Brian H. Brooks) and Adam (David Malinsky), Monica struggles to retain her sanity in the face of her lover's diminishing attentions and the proximity of her neighbor. Each woman fights to keep her own identity in a hostile environment, which leads to a heart-wrenching climax that leaves no easy answers for both the characters and the viewers.
