In the early 1800s, Benjamin and Mary Ann Steed moved their family to upstate New York, where they unknowingly settled in a village divided along religious lines. Each member of the Steed family must come to terms with their own ideas in the face of harsh criticism after their new hired help turns out to be at the center of the controversy. They are battling the enormous issue surrounding a young guy named Joseph Smith as a team.
