During the Hundred Years' War, in the year 1431, Rouen, in Normandy, was under siege. Joan of Arc, often known as the Maid of Orleans, was put through an unfair trial by an ecclesiastical court that was presided over by her adversaries from England after she was taken captive by French soldiers fighting for an opposing group in France.
