A young doctor taking a break from work is shot in the head, and the cops have no idea why. As an intern, Fred Rowan (Richard Conte), a detective with military experience, is assigned to the hospital by Inspector Al Gordon (John Alexander). Worst of all, Rowan discovers an unforgiving world of interns who are pushed to the brink of personal and professional failure.
