Burnt out while officiating a cricket suit at a psychiatric hospital, Crossley tells Graves (a visitor) the story of a strange unfamiliar person (also named Crossley) who invades the lives and also house of a neighborhood artist and his partner. The complete stranger asserts understanding of real magic, which he uses to displace his host as well as control his wife. The artist must locate a method to combat Crossley and his relatively implacable powers. Graves uncertainties Crossley's claim that the tale is true, and also starts to think that Crossley is really among the individuals.
