Diz (Joel Courtney) is a rambunctious adolescent drifter who lives his life on the run. As a child, he was abandoned by his parents, so he looks out for himself and refuses to accept handouts. He grabs whatever he can and flees. Diz lives a life of thievery and abandonment, jaded and determined to answer to no one. Diz's life changes when he floats into a small town on the Snake River. There, he meets an unflappable old man named Marty and falls in love with Marty's guarded granddaughter, Selah. When Diz robs a local drug dealer, he finds himself with a large sum of money and the target of two vicious killers. With more money than he knows what to do with and criminals on his tail, Diz puts the people he's grown to care about in jeopardy while still trying to win Selah. Some things, however, cannot be stolen or purchased. The River Thief is about guilt, self-sacrifice, and accepting life as a gift.
