Welcome to London, Jimmy and Sheila Broadbent. Jane, Jimmy's 17-year-old daughter Jane, Jimmy's first wife, has arrived to meet her father and stepmother. Sheila proposes making Jane a debutante, but Jane refuses. Sheila's cousin Mabel Claremont's strenuous efforts to woo affluent David Fenner for her debutante daughter Clarissa, and Jane's interest to David Parkson, an American drummer who plays in the orchestra at the coming-out balls.
