Bruno Felkin kills a rival gangster in San Francisco. He then tells Homicide Lt. Kelsey about it as an alibi, but it doesn't work. To get away, he sneaks onto a fishing boat. Bruno meets skipper Hamil Linder out at sea, and Hamil shows Bruno how to fish. Bruno hires Hamil's wayward son Carl to take care of his slot machines. Then Carl starts to like Connie, who is Bruno's girlfriend. The climax is a storm at sea.
