When Francis Barnard learns that his sister Elizabeth has died, he decides to travel to Spain. Francis is perplexed when his wife's husband, Nicholas Medina, the son of the most ruthless torturer of the Spanish Inquisition, informs him that she has died of a blood ailment. After further investigation, he discovers that his sister died as a result of severe fright, and that she may have been buried alive!
