In The Original Kings of Comedy, Steve Harvey, D.L. Hughley, Cedric the Entertainer, and Bernie Mac perform stand-up and sitcom routines that are both raucous and witty, while also replicating the joy of attending a live concert show, which appears to be an impossible undertaking at first. Throughout the act, director Spike Lee and his crew set up a slew of cameras in a crowded stadium and onstage (in addition to backstage, as they follow the comedians) to capture the vivid immediacy of the show, which is equally concerned with the audience as it is with the jokes.
