The Man in the Sky
John Mitchell's attempts to improve his family's circumstances fail, and he blames himself. Mitchell will test the company's new rocket-propulsion transport plane in Wolverhampton, transporting Ministry official Crabtree and buyer's representative Ashmore. Mitchell learns from his boss, Reg Conway, that if Ashmore does not approve the jet, the company will go out of business and Mitchell would lose his job because the plane is not insured and the firm's whole capital is attached to it. Aloft, an engine catches fire, and passengers and crew parachute out, but Mitchell refuses to ditch in the Irish Sea.
