When Annie Garret's negligent husband Ross and their seven-year-old daughter Taylor relocate from Colorado to a ranch in northern California, Ross abandons the family after failing to find work there. Taylor and Annie's treasured racehorse Tolo is in need of constant care, so Annie is forced to work as a ranch hand and stable person at the O'Brien Stud Farm where the strict Mary Lou O'Brien is keeping some personal issues hidden from view. Although Annie has had personal hardships, she tries to find a way to have a fun trip by enrolling her horse in a high-stakes horse-racing competition. However, when Annie's horse becomes blind as a result of a racing ailment, she is forced to battle through her difficulties in order to put the seemingly impossible to the test.
