Firemen in a small Czechoslovakian town celebrate the retirement of their chief with a ball toss. There will be music and dancing, a beauty competition, and a raffle at the event. There will be a large turnout from the entire community. The process, on the other hand, is beset by difficulties at every turn. Injuries on the job, lost or stolen prizes, a scarcity of attractive women... and a fire.
